My customer asks for the carbon footprint of my product. Now what?
If your customer asks for the carbon footprint of your product, you can provide it without setting up a project. Xain calculates it from the technical documentation you already have, with an ISO 14067-certified methodology verified by LRQA, and delivers it as a certificate with a registration number.
Key figures
2–3h
of calculation per product in the Xain engine.
2–3days
working days until you have the verified product certificate.
3.21%
average deviation from data measured at the factory, calculating from manufacturing technical documentation.
How it works
How does Xain help?
You send what you already have
Drawings, data sheets, photos, manuals or the bill of materials.
Xain calculates
It uses physical factors, applying the most conservative factor when the documentation does not clarify something.
You receive the certificate
Along with the breakdown, so you understand where each value comes from.
You improve with primary data
When you want to reflect changes in process or energy at your plant.
Industrial customers and retail chains ask their suppliers for the emissions figure of what they sell them. They usually do it because they need to measure their own Scope 3 or answer a tender, and they expect a concrete figure with its method, not a generic statement.
What do customers usually ask for?
A value in kgCO2e per unit, the boundary of the calculation (almost always cradle-to-gate), the standard applied and a way to check it. A certificate with a registration number and a verified methodology answers all four.
Why is a spend-based estimate not enough?
Because your customer will use it to decide and to report, and a spend-based calculation penalises whoever invests in decarbonising: its price rises and its footprint looks bigger. With physical factors, what you improve shows. More detail in physical versus spend-based factors.
What if I need the figure by reference or by shipment?
It can be issued by SKU, colour, destination or shipment. We explain it on per-shipment certificate.
Who answers inside your company?
- Sales or management: receives the customer’s or the tender’s request and sets the deadline.
- Quality and product engineering: gather the technical documentation Xain needs.
- Sustainability: reviews the breakdown and decides whether to improve with primary data.
Frequently asked questions
What companies usually ask before getting started.
Do I have to implement anything?
No. It works with the technical documentation that already exists in your company and can be requested by email or through the web platform.
What if my customer uses a different format?
The certificate states the unit, the system boundary and the factors used, which is what a customer needs to understand and reuse the figure in their own inventory.
Is my data reused for other customers?
The primary data you upload is reused for all your customers that work with Xain, so you do not have to repeat the work.

Product footprint
Certify your product’s carbon footprint with an ISO 14067 method verified by LRQA, from your technical documentation, with registration and traceability.
Per-shipment certificate
Get the carbon footprint by reference, SKU, colour, destination or shipment. Every Xain certificate has a unique registration number and node traceability.
Primary data
Primary data are values measured or collected directly from the specific process or supplier, instead of database averages.
CBAM
CBAM is the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, which links the import of certain carbon-intensive goods to their embedded emissions.
