Product carbon footprint certified, from your technical documentation.
Xain calculates the carbon footprint of a product from its technical documentation, using physical factors and an ISO 14067-certified methodology verified by LRQA. Every certificate carries a unique registration number and traceability down to the factor of each node in the process.
Key figures
3.21%
average deviation from data measured at the factory, calculating from manufacturing technical documentation.
2–3h
of calculation per product in the Xain engine.
2–3days
working days until you have the verified product certificate.
How it works
How does Xain calculate the footprint of a product?
The calculation breaks the product down into materials and processes. That structure is its process tree.
You send the documentation
Drawings, data sheets, photos, manuals or the bill of materials you already have. By email, on the web platform or via API.
Xain builds the process tree
It assigns each node a physical factor: material, weight, process (including its energy) and transport. When something is ambiguous, it applies the most conservative factor so the footprint is not understated.
You receive the certificate
With a unique registration number and traceability down to the factor of each node. If you later provide primary data, it replaces the generic factor.
The product carbon footprint is the figure that industrial customers, retail chains and tenders now ask for: how many kilos of CO2e one unit of your product emits, cradle-to-gate. Xain calculates it automatically and delivers it as a certificate you can show and audit.
What do you receive?
- A product carbon footprint certificate with a unique registration number.
- The breakdown by node, with the factor applied in each one, so you can review where every kilo of CO2e comes from.
- The option to issue it by reference, SKU, colour, destination or shipment if you need more granularity.
Which level of accuracy can I choose?
| Level | What it uses |
|---|---|
| Xain Insight | The purchases spreadsheet from the ERP: less than 10 minutes of work |
| Xain Precision | Technical sheets or drawings, only on the highest-impact lines |
| Primary data | Values measured at your plant or your supplier’s |
Which standard does it rely on?
The methodology follows ISO 14067, which sets how to quantify and communicate the footprint of a product, and it has been verified by LRQA, an independent body. You can read how it is applied on the ISO 14067 page and what the verification means on the LRQA verification page.
Frequently asked questions
What companies usually ask before getting started.
What do I need to get started?
The technical documentation you already have for the product, such as drawings, data sheets, photos, manuals or the bill of materials. Your suppliers do not need to reply for you to get a first result.
How long does it take?
The calculation takes 2 to 3 hours and the verified certificate is delivered in 2 to 3 business days. These are the timings of a product footprint certificate.
How accurate is it?
The average deviation is 3.21 % against data measured at the factory, when the calculation is made from manufacturing technical documentation.
Can I improve the result with my own data?
Yes. Primary data from your plant or your suppliers replace generic data and refine the calculation.

ISO 14067
ISO 14067 is the standard that sets how to quantify and communicate a product carbon footprint. What it requires, what cradle-to-gate is and how Xain uses it.
Product carbon footprint
A product carbon footprint (PCF) is the sum of the greenhouse gas emissions and removals of a product across its life cycle, expressed in kgCO2e per unit.
PCF versus EPD
Difference between a product carbon footprint (PCF, ISO 14067) and an environmental product declaration (EPD, ISO 14025): what each measures, when to use it.
